This paper summarizes Professor Tong Xiaolin's clinical experience in the treatment of hypothyroidism with epimedium herb based on the theory of"a junior fire supporting vital qi".Kidney yang deficiency is a common pathogenesis of hypothyroidism as a junior fire fails to support vital qi,promoting the occurrence of its clinical symptoms such as fatigue,cold body and limbs,etc.Epimedium herb has the effect of tonifying the kidney and strengthening yang,which can in turn empower the junior fire and reinforce the sovereign fire.Applied in the treatment of hypothyroidism,it can promote the effect of"a junior fire supporting vital qi",regulate the related hormone levels,and improve patients'deficient cold constitution and thyroid function.
