Professor Zhang Zhiming argues that chronic constipation is caused by a yang qi deficiency in the spleen and kidney,leading to the dysfunction of the spleen in transportation,and the failure of the large intestine in conduction,and the stagnation of dregs in the intestinal tract.The disease is characterized by a syndrome of deficiency in root and excess in manifestation.Based on the"invigorating the spleen"theory in his clinical practice,he analyzes the correlation between the physiological function of the spleen governing transportation and transformation and the pathogenesis of the disease,exploring the connotations of the spleen-invigorating method and the relationship between the dysfunction of the spleen and chronic constipation.Based on the"spleen-invigorating method",he usually uses the methods of warming yang for assisting in transportation and regulating qi for assisting in transportation,aiming at restoring the function of transportation and transformation in the spleen and stomach,to harmonize the spleen and stomach,and to restore the transportation function of the spleen.As a result,the intestine can normally conduct the wastes and the disease is cured accordingly.
