Clinical study on Buyang Huanwu Tang in preventing XELOX chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity in gastric cancer patients
Objective To study the value of Buyang Huanwu Tang in preventing peripheral neurotoxicity in gastric cancer patients after chemotherapy with oxaliplatin combined with capecitabine(XELOX).Methods A total of 80 gastric cancer patients admitted to our hospital from January 2021 to January 2023 were enrolled in the study. They were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 40 patients in each group. The control group was treated with XELOX chemotherapy alone, while the observation group was treated with Buyang Huanwu Tang on the basis of XELOX chemotherapy until the start of the next course of chemotherapy. The therapeutic effects of the two groups were compared, and the levels of serum tumor markers, nerve conduction velocity, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, adverse reactions, and peripheral neurotoxicity gradings were compared before and after treatment between the two groups. Results After treatment, the motor nerve conduction velocity(MNCV)and sensory nerve conduction velocity(SNCV)were decreased in the two groups(P<0.05),while the MNCV and SNCV were higher in the observation group than those in the control group, with a statistical significance(P<0.05).After treatment, the TCM syndrome scores were significantly decreased in the two groups of patients(P<0.05),and the observation group was lower than the control group(P<0.05).After intervention, the peripheral neurotoxicity grading was lower in the observation group than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Buyang Huanwu Tang is safe and effective in preventing peripheral neurotoxicity in gastric cancer patients after XELOX chemotherapy, which can improve the symptoms of peripheral neurotoxicity in them and improve their quality of life.
