Through investigating ancient books,combing the modern research results of traditional Chinese medicine,combined with the understandings and application experience of well-known experts and scholars in the fields of clinical traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese materia medica,it is concluded that centipede mainly has the following characteristics:Its effects mainly involve relieving spasm by calming endogenous wind,dredging channels to relieve pain,counteracting toxic substances and resolving hard masses.Its symptom targets feature joint pain,twitch and spasm,sores and ulcers,and impotence.Modern pharmacology finds that centipede and its active ingredients have pain-relieving,immune regulating,anti-inflammatory,anticonvulsive,and promoting skin recovery effects.It has certain toxicity,thus should be taken with caution and not be used for a long term.Its clinical dosage is 1.5-15 g.The usual dosage of its powder is 1.5-3g.When taken orally,it should be used according to the syndrome differentiation of different diseases or of the same disease at different stages,and the dose-effect relationship between its dosage and its symptom targets should be actively explored.
