Case studies of the inaccurate interpretation of some words in The Great Chinese Dictionary have been conducted in academic circles,but there is no discussion on the reasons for the inaccurate interpretation.By analyzing 9 cases of the inac-curate interpretation in The Great Chinese Dictionary,the paper explores their reasons why the word meaning is not accurately giv-en:using wrong annotations in ancient books;failure to analyze the sentence structure;using one or too few cases of documentary evidence;the wrong analysis of the punctuation of the documentary evidence;inconsistent interpretation of the word.
