Ruth Yang, the protagonist of Amy Tan's fourth novel The Bonesetters'Daughter,is a typical"ABC".On her road of Americanization, she first performs American identity and abandons her Chinese culture and identity. As a result, she encounters racial discrimination and becomes a marginal person and other in the Western society, and falls into the crisis of see-king cultural identity. To get out of this,Ruth turns to seek ethnic culture and perform her own Chinese identity while integra-ting into the mainstream society of the United States, and builds a dual cultural identity of China and the United States.Using Judith Butler's theory of identity performance to analyze The Bonesetters'Daughter,it can be seen that Ruth Yang's identity per-formance from abandoning Chinese cultural identity to constructing a dual cultural identity is an ethnic identity performance under social construction, which deconstructs the essentialism of identity, reflects the fluidity of cultural identity, helps to integrate ethnic groups and multi-cultures,and to realize a community with a shared future for mankind.
