Multimodal discourse analysis has become a hot topic in foreign language education research in the field of English language teaching.In this study,15 MOOC coursewares of English and American literature on the Chinese university MOOC Class platform were selected for random multimodal discourse analysis.Through this analy-sis,this paper makes targeted recommendations for multimodal teaching and design in MOOCs,especially in terms of action,visual and auditory modalities.These recommendations aim to construct a framework for multimodal discourse analysis of university English and American literature MOOC courseware with a view to improve the quality of teaching and learning in university English and American literature MOOCs.Such research and practice are of great signifi-cance in promoting the reform and innovation of university English and American literature teaching.
