How Digital Financial Inclusion Affects the Rural-Urban Income Gap——An Empirical Study Based on Spatial Spillover Effects
Using panel data from 31 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government)in China from 2012 to 2021 as a research sample, the article constructs an empirical model to conduct re-search on the impact, spatial effect, and regional heterogeneity of digital financial inclusion on the urban-rural income gap.The results show that digital financial inclusion can reduce the urban-rural income gap at the national level with sig-nificant regional and dimensional differences, with the greatest impact in the central region, followed by the western region and the smallest in the eastern region;breadth of coverage and digitization have a significant effect on the urban-rural income gap, while depth of use has a non-significant effect. Both digital financial inclusion and urban-rural in-come gap have significant spatial aggregation characteristics,showing"low-low"and"high-high"aggregation charac-teristics,and there is a significant spatial spillover effect of digital financial inclusion on urban-rural income gap.In promoting the development of digital inclusive finance, the relevant departments should take into account local condi-tions and implement a digital inclusive finance strategy that is in line with the development characteristics of the region, with a view to realizing coordinated regional development and further narrowing the income gap between urban and ru-ral areas.
