Characteristics and Value of the Five Ministers'Annotations on Anthology of Literature:A Case Study of Ruan Ji's Seventeen Lyrical Poems
Centering on Ruan Ji's Seventeen Lyrical Poems, this paper examines the characteristics of the Five Ministers'annota-tions(Wuchen Zhu)in the Anthology of Literature.Compared to Li Shan's annotations, the Five Ministers'annotations employ con-cise and straightforward language, focusing on uncovering the thematic essence and the creative adaptation of allusions in Ruan Ji's poetry, aligning with the needs of examination candidates and general readers. In contrast to Shen Yue's annotations, the Five Min-isters'interpretations often draw parallels to contemporary events, which, while occasionally diminishing the subtle aesthetic depth of Ruan Ji's poetry, mark a significant shift in interpretative approaches. The unique value of the Five Ministers'annotations lies in two aspects:first, the pioneering use of historical facts to elucidate Ruan Ji's poetry;and second, steering the interpretation of Ruan Ji's works toward a path emphasizing satire and critique.
