English phonetics course has very limited class time, yet it has arduous teaching goals; the traditional teaching modes can no longer meet the requirements. Adjustments in theory and pedagogy need to be made. The teaching has to be systematic, combining both the segmental and suprasegmental elements; it should coordinate the pronunciation training with oral communication. Learner＇s factor should be respected by providing various, focused training with the assist of multimedia equipment.
