《贵妇画像》这部小说被许多评论家们认为是亨利·詹姆斯最出色的作品，自其出版以来，已经有很多评论家从不同角度对此作品进行了解读，近年来也有不少评论家从女性主义视角重新解读了该作品。然而，这些解读大都集中在主人公伊莎贝拉身上，很少有人系统地研究过潘西这一角色。本文作者认为潘西是该作品中最具有维多利亚时期女性一般特征的人物，她比伊莎贝尔更能代表当时社会女性的思想状况，对于研究维多利亚时期女性思想状况及所受男权压迫具有很重要的参考价值。本文将基于前人对该作品的研究，在细读的基础上运用女性主义理论对潘西这一角色进行解读，旨在通过对潘西这一男权社会受害者的深入剖析，加深读者对维多利亚时期女性的了解。
Abstract
In his The Portrait of A Lady , Henry James is devoted to the portrayal of the character Isabel Archer .This novel is one of his most popu-lar ones and is regarded by many critics as his finest .Since its publication , it has been undergone various criticisms and interpretations .Many recent crit-ics reread this novel from the perspective of feminism .However , their studies almost exclusively focus on the protagonist Isabel .There has been few thor-ough study on the female character Pansy Osmond whom the author perceives to be more representative of the Victorian women who are victims of the patri -archy society, which makes Pansy worth being studies .Therefore, the author will conduct a study on the character Pansy from the feminist perspective which will hopefully give the reader a better understanding of the Victorian women in general .
