Spatial distribution and pollution evaluation of heavy metals in surface sediments of intertidal zone,Jiangsu Province
Contents of heavy metals, namely,Cu,Pb,Zn,Cr and Cd,in 824 surface sediment samples collected from intertidal zone of Jiangsu Province were measured.Sources of heavy metals in the surface sediments were analyzed by the correlation analysis. The sediments were evaluated and graded according to the Marine Sediment Quality(GB 18668-2002).The ecological risk regarding heavy metals was assessed by Hakanson potential ecological risk assessment method.Contents of Zn and Pb in the surface sediments of inter-tidal zone of Jiangsu Province meet the national first-class sediment standard, and contents of Cr,Cd and Cu meet the national second-class sediment standard.Cu,Pb and Zn elements are similar in source or accumulation.Cd is not controlled by the granularity control law, whose distribution is mainly affected by human activities. The overall pollution and the potential ecological risk of heavy metals in the surface sediments of intertidal zone of Jiangsu Province are at low risk level, and the potential ecological risk coefficient of heavy metals is Cd>Pb>Cu>Cr>Zn in descending order.
