China is the birthplace of sericulture with a long history,but the real recognition of sericulture came after the Opium War when the establishment of the Hangzhou silkworm academy elevated the textile industry,represented by silk,to a new level of development.As the earliest vocational education institution,Hangzhou silkworm academy can be said to be an important force in promoting the development of modern industrial economy.This paper reviews the establishment process of the silkworm academy and its impact on modern textile industry,which has reference value for modern economic development.
