Spiral of Silence:Discrimination and Prevention of Advisor-Advisee Bullying
The advisor-advisee bullying is vertical bullying on account of the imbalance of power.Advi-sor-advisee bullying is not only caused by the immorality of the advisor,but also caused by the power abuse of the advisor,the too large power gradient,and the inactive university management power.In the global higher education system,advisor-advisee bullying has a high incidence,low recognition and few complaints.The bullying does harm to the physical and mental development of the graduate students,and also becomes a harmful organizational culture through intergenerational cloning.In order to prevent bullying effectively,universities need to develop anti-bullying systems and procedures.Through the participation of graduate students in governance and the prior agreement,the advisor power is clear-ly confined in advisor responsibility system.Advisors should also establish an ethic of responsibility to pre-vent bullying at all.
