Effect of copper-doping method on the homogenization of the structure from liquid phase separation in iron-based alloys
Iron-based composite power with 5%of Cu was prepared by both electroless plating and mechanical mix-ing methods. The microstructure of the composite powder, the homogenization of the structure from liquid phase separation during the alloying process and the characteristic of phase transition were evaluated by combining methods as SEM,XRD,DSC with thermodynamic calculations. The results show that the composite powder prepared by electroless plating indicated the remarkable characteristics of core-shell structure, and, comparing with the powder prepared by mechanical mixing, the liquid phase separation phenomenon was more obvious during the alloying process, and eventually formed a large amount of iron-rich melt with a little copper-rich melt. And during the cool-ing process, the structure of e-Cu showed more uniformly distributed in the iron-based alloy matrix.
