Effect of rare earth content on the structure and magnetic properties of Nd-Y-Fe-B alloys
The effect of rare earth(RE)content on the structure and magnetic properties of Nd-Y-Fe-B alloys was studied using rapid quenching and crystallization annealing. With the increase in RE content in the alloy,a RE-rich grain boundary(GB)phase gradually precipitates after crystallization annealing.Higher rare earth content induces the enrichment of Y in the grains, leading to an overall increase in the Y content in the grains of the RE-rich alloy. The combined influence of the beneficial effect of the RE-rich phase on coercivity and the dilution effect of Y enrich-ment in the grains on coercivity results in a nonlinear increase in the coercivity of the alloy with increasing rare earth content. This study provides new insights for the design and preparation of novel sintered magnet precursor materi-als.
