Assessment of Surface Sediment Pollution in the Middle and Lower Reaches of Futuan River Basin
In order to explore the pollution status in surface sediment of Futuan river. The content of total nitrogen, total phosphorus, organic matter and heavy metals(including Cu,Zn,Pb,Cd,Ni,Cr,Hg and As)in sediment of 12 samples were analyzed. The spatial distribution characteristics, pollution level and sources of pollutants were analyzed. The results indicated the total nitrogen single pollution index, total phosphorus single pollution index, comprehensive pollution index and organic pollution index of the urban river and the export of Rizhao Reservoir were generally seriously polluted while other sampling points were between light and moderate pollution. The average concentrations of other heavy metals were higher than the background value of Donggang district except for Pb.Heavy metal concentration of the urban river and the export of Rizhao Reservoir were generally higher than other areas. The sources of heavy metal pollutants may be caused by combined factors such as Industry, agriculture and transportation. The Cd content poses a mild to moderate risk. The heavy metals was no noncarcinogenic risk and carcinogenic risk levels were within the acceptable ranges.
