Study on Robustness of Extra-DOF-Free Generalized Finite Element Method to Mesh Distortion
The robustness of the extra-DOF-free Generalized Finite Element Method(GFEM)to mesh distortion is investigated.Selectively interpolating least-squares(SIMLS)are used to construct the enrichments. The independ-ence of enrichments from extra degrees of freedom(DOFs)and meshes leads to the elimination of the singular stiff-ness matrix, and the robustness to the mesh distortion. It is proven and verified that the reproducibility of this method is maintained in distorted meshes.Geometric and material nonlinearity is considered in the large deformation analysis of hyperelastic and hypo-elastoplastic material.Distorted meshes are used for discretization and the traditional Finite Element Method(FEM)is employed for comparison.Numerical results show that the GFEM without extra DOFs is accurate and stable even in extremely distorted meshes.
