Effect of PAC Replenishment Rate on Coupling Treatment Efficiency and Sludge Property of PAC-MBR
Regular recovery and supplement of powdered activated carbon(PAC)is necessary for the stable performance of hybrid membrane bioreactor(PAC-MBR).The influence of the replenishment of PAC on sludge filterability and microbial communities in hybrid MBRs was investigated. The results showed that the replenishment of PAC had no significant effect on CODCr and nitrogen removal, while soluble microbial products(SMP)concentration gradually decreased and extracellular polymeric substance(EPS)concentration gradually increased with increasing of PAC replacement ratio. The replenishment of PAC could reduce the membrane fouling process of MBR system and improve the filtration efficiency.Microbial activity was positive associated with the PAC replenishment ratio. In addition, according to the high-throughput sequencing, the abundance of Proteobacteria,Bacteroides and Nitrospira increased due to the addition of fresh PAC,ensuring the removal of pollutants, and the membrane fouling caused by Bacteroides and Proteobacteria decreased. The optimal PAC replenishment ratio was 1.67%,which could effectively alleviate membrane fouling and enhance the dominant bacterial structure. The replenishment of PAC is considered as a promising method to promote the widespread application of hybrid MB Rs.
