Study on the Inhibition Mechanism of Montmorillonite on Pyrite in Seawater System
In order to explore the effect of montmorillonite on the pyrite floatability in seawater system,the flotation tests of pyrite in pure water and seawater system under different montmorillonite proportions were carried out.The inhibition mecha-nism of various factors on pyrite was studied by mineral surface potential and three-phase foam structure test,seawater composi-tion analysis and DLVO theoretical calculation.The results showed that under weak acid and weak alkaline conditions,montmo-rillonite in pure water system had the effect of inhibiting pyrite floating,while seawater system further strengthened the inhibi-tion of pyrite,resulting in almost non-floating of pyrite.The surface potential of pyrite and montmorillonite in seawater was smaller,and montmorillonite was easier to cover the surface of pyrite.In the weak alkaline environment,the flotation recovery rate of pyrite in pure water was 95%,while the recovery rate of pyrite was only 5%under the condition of seawater and mont-morillonite accounting for 30%,indicating that seawater could strengthen montmorillonite to inhibit pyrite.The research results are helpful to guide the use of seawater to solve the problems of high cost of inhibitors and difficult separation of copper and sulfur in industrial practice of copper-sulfur flotation separation.
