Study on the Interface Adhesion of Iron Tailings and Asphalt Based on Macro-micro Test Method
As a new material, the addition of iron tailings to asphalt will produce a new interface, and its interface adhe-sivity with asphalt directly affects the road performance of asphalt mixture. In order to reveal the adhesion mechanism of iron tailings-asphalt interface, the chemical composition and microstructure of iron tailings sand were analyzed by X-ray fluorescence spectrometer,X-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope. The adhesion rate of asphalt on the surface of iron tailings was quantitatively analyzed by improved boiling test, and the adhesion energy of iron tailings-asphalt interface was calculated by molecular dynamics simulation. Finally, the correlation degree between microscopic test results and macroscopic adhesion rate was analyzed based on grey correlation method. The results show that the main chemical composition and mineral composition of iron tailings sand, limestone and basalt are quite different. The content of metal oxide in iron tailings sand is higher, the sur-face has metal luster, rich edges and corners. The interface adhesion energy between iron tailings and asphalt, the adhesion rate of asphalt on the surface of iron tailings are between those of limestone and basalt. The correlation degree between the micro-scopic test results and the macroscopic adhesion rate(from large to small)is the apparent morphology,CaO+MgO content,al-bite content, and interface adhesion energy. It can be seen that the iron tailings have a good adhesivity with asphalt and meet the engineering requirements. The research results can lay a foundation for the application of iron tailings in asphalt surface layer.
