Study on Process Mineralogical Characteristics of a Mud in Guizhou
A process mineralogy study was carried out to investigate the mineral composition, embedding characteristics and elemental distribution of aluminum, iron and titanium in a red mud in Guizhou Province, and to identify suitable recovery methods. The chemical composition, particle size characteristics, elemental distribution and mineral embedding characteristics of the red mud were analyzed in detail by chemical multi-element analysis, laser particle sizer analysis and SEM-EDS-BPMA automatic quantitative mineral analysis system. The results showed that the red mud samples are rich in iron, aluminum and ti-tanium,which can be recycled; Its particle size is very fine, and the yield of-25 p.m is as high as 77.60%.The mineral com-position is complex, and the main minerals include hematite, iron aluminum silicate, calcium iron aluminum silicate, and calci-um iron oxide.Hematite-rich concretions are more abundant and have a coarse embedded grain size; However, minerals such as stibnite and rutile are low in content, have a fine embedded grain size, are sparsely distributed, and are difficult to separate and extract. The present study further clarifies the forms of aluminum, iron and titanium elements in red mud, which provides an im-portant mineralogical theoretical basis for the development of an efficient utilization scheme for Bayer process red mud.
