The point load test is a commonly used indirect method for determining the uniaxial compressive strength of rocks,providing guidance for engineering design and construction.This study focuses on the calculation method of the point load strength index.Based on a large number of actual point load tests and their corresponding results,the experimental data are statistically analyzed,and new variables are introduced into the calculation formula so as to optimize the existing point load strength calculation method.Samples were collected from the Changshangou Gold Mine and subjected to point load tests after sample preparation.The point load test results were analyzed using statistical methods to derive an optimized approach.The u-niaxial compressive strength of rock samples from the same mining area and location was used as a reference value,and the va-rious calculation results were compared and analyzed against this reference value.The results show that the improved calcula-tion method yields results closer to the actual uniaxial compressive strength of the rock samples,and the dispersion of the cal-culation results under the same experimental conditions and data is at a relatively low level.This provides a reliable point load strength index calculation method for estimating the uniaxial compressive strength of rock samples when on-site testing condi-tions are limited.
