The Impact of Labor Return on Farmers'Well-being in the Context of Common Prosperity:Empirical Evidence from CLDS
Improving the ordinary people's livelihood and enhancing their well-being in the course of development is the essential requirement for achieving common prosperity and ensuring harmonious social development.Based on the data of CLDS in 2016 and 2018,this paper uses the OLS model and the intermediary effect model to analyze the impact of labor return on the farmers'well-being and its mechanism. The results show that the return of labor has a significant positive impact on the farmers'well-being,and the conclusion is still valid after robustness and endogeneity tests are conducted in various ways.A further research has found that the return of labor has a positive impact on the well-being of farmers by promoting entrepreneurship, the social network strengthens the positive impact of labor return on the well-being of farmers, and the heterogeneity test shows that the impact of labor return on the well-being of farmers in the lower 50%quantile,in the central and western regions, and among those who have transferred out of land is more obvious. Therefore, opening up the villages and unblocking the"urban-rural"flow channels of labor, optimizing the environment and encouraging labor return to carry out inclusive entrepreneurship, and building platforms, improving the social network chain of returning labor, maximizing the advantages of human capital, physical capital and social capital of returning labor and effectively connecting with local resource endowments, are important options to ensure the livelihood and solidly promote common prosperity.
