Research progress on production characteristics and prediction of CH4 and H2 S emissions in urban sewer pipes
China's urban sewer systems became the main potential sources of greenhouse gas(GHG,i.e.,methane)and hydrogen sulfide emissions, which was in high water level operation and blockage. The disclosure of GHG and H2 S productions, predictions, and control strategies would contribute to the low-carbon operation and safe operation and maintenance of the sewage net-work.This paper mainly analyzes the research status and main influencing factors of typical GHG production and hydrogen sulfide emissions in the sewer systems. The environmental conditions, wastewater characteristics, and hydraulic conditions of sewage pipeline are the key influencing fac-tors,which would affect the functional microbial community for GHG generation. The discharge features also rely on the wastewater sources, collection ways and related techniques in view of GHG emission differences in domestic and foreign sewage pipes.WATS and SEWEX are currently the main models to simulate and predict the CH4 and H2 S emission.Future investigations on the optimization of models and controlling strategies are prospected.
