Research progress on the effects of hydraulic conditions on the microorganisms in water distribution networks
The abnormal proliferation of microorganisms in water supply networks(WSNs)re-duces the water quality and threatens the user's water safety. Thus, controlling the biomass of mi-croorganisms in WSNs is an important measure to ensure the safety of drinking water. The growth and removal of microorganisms in WSNs are affected by hydraulic conditions, and the extent of this effect varies from site to site in WSNs.In this paper,we review the effects of hydraulic retention time and velocity on the growth of microorganisms and the effect of hydraulic flushing on biofilms.Hydraulic retention time and velocity were found to have a significant effect on the biomass and community structure of microorganisms, and hydraulic flushing had different removal effects on biofilms formed under different conditions. The results of this review can provide important sup-port for the research and application of microorganism control of WSNs.
