Pilot study on the start-up and advanced nitrogen removal of AOA process under low temperature
A skid-mounted AOA pilot plant with a capacity of 50 m3/d was designed and con-structed at the Jiangbian WWTP Phase Ⅰ & Ⅱ project in Changzhou. The nitrogen removal effi-ciency of AOA process start-up and stable operation under low temperature conditions in winter were verified and studied.AOA process has been affected by low temperature and temperature plummets both in start-up stage and in stable operation stage,Compared to the current plant with AAO process of Jiangbian WWTP Phase Ⅰ & Ⅱ project, which met the effluent quality standard under low temperature of 11~18 ℃ by adding external carbon sources, the pilot plant still achieved 5.51 mg/L of average total nitrogen concentration in effluent, and 83.16%of average removal rate without external carbon sources, much better than the effluent quality standard of Jiangbian WWTP.It shows that AOA process has considerable superiority in nitrogen removal under low-temperature conditions.
