Research progress of effects of rare earth on microstructure and properties of composite coatings
With the deepening of research on surface phenomena such as friction, lubrication, adhesion and adsorption of materials, various new composite coating materials have rapidly developed and gradually replaced traditional materials. The purpose of various surface engineering technologies is to produce composite coatings with high hardness and excellent wear resistance. The coatings obtained by different technologies still have different degrees of porosity, low bonding strength, low fracture toughness and other defects.A large number of studies show that rare earth and its oxides play an important role in improving the microstructure and performance of the coatings. This article reviews the effects of rare earths and their oxides on microstructure and grain size of coatings,as well as their improvement effects on mechanical and tribological properties, and analyzes the mechanism of the influence of rare earths. On this basis, the development prospects of rare earth modified coatings are discussed.
