Safety assessment of a wall-broken Ganoderma lucidum spore powder
Objective To assess the safety of a wall-broken Ganoderma lucidum spore powder. Methods The safety of a wall-broken Ganoderma lucidum spore powder was evaluated through acute toxicity test, three genetic toxicity tests and 30-day feeding test. Results The oral maximum tolerated dose of this wall-broken Ganoderma lucidum spore powder was>15 000 mg/kg body weight in mice, belonging to the non-toxic grade, and all three genetic toxicity tests were negative.During the 30-day feeding period, the dose of this wall-broken Ganoderma lucidum spore powder had significant impacts on the body weight, food utilization rate, main visceral body, and hematological and blood biochemical parameters of rats(all P values<0.05).In addition,no remarkable changes were seen in the pathology of animal tissues. Conclusions The wall-broken Ganoderma lucidum spore powder has a high safety under experimental conditions.
