Epidemiological characteristics of and trends in mortality of colorectal cancer in Wujiang District,Suzhou City from 2008 to 2022
Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of and trends in mortality of colorectal cancer in Wujiang District,Suzhou City from 2008 to 2022.Methods Data pertaining to the mortality of colorectal cancer among residents with household registration in Wujiang District were collected.The mortality,standardized mortality,probability of premature mortality,potential years of life lost rate(PYLLR)and average years of life lost(AYLL)were calculated,and the cause-eliminated life expectancy(CELE)and years of life expectancy lost(YLEL)were estimated with the life table method.In addition,the trends in mortality of colorectal cancer were evaluated in Wujiang District from 2008 to 2022 using a Joinpoint regression model with average annual percent change(AAPC).Results Both the mortality(AAPC=4.42％,P＜0.05)and standardized mortality of colorectal cancer(AAPC=1.63％,P＜0.05)appeared a tendency towards a rise among residents in Wujiang District from 2008 to 2022,and the standardized mortality was higher a-mong men than among women.The mortality of colorectal cancer was low among residents under the age of 35 years,then increased with age,and appeared a tendency towards a rise among residents at ages of 80 to 84 years and 85 years and older(both P values＜0.01).The life expectancy lost due to colorectal cancer appeared a tendency towards a rise among residents in Wujiang District from 2008 to 2022(AAPC=3.58％,P＜0.01),and no significant changes were seen in trends in the probability of premature mortality.In addition,the PYLL,PYLLR and AYLL of colorectal cancer were 9 947.5 year-persons,0.91‰ and 11.53 year-persons,respectively.Conclu-sions The mortality of colorectal cancer appeared a tendency towards a rise among residents in Wujiang District from 2008 to 2022,and the life lost due to colorectal cancer gradually increased over years.Early screening is of urgent need to achieve early identification,early diagnosis and early treatment of colorectal cancer.
