Epidemiological characteristics of mumps and protective effect of mumps vaccines in Yancheng City from 2019 to 2023
Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of mumps and to evaluate the protective effect of mumps virus-containing vaccines in Yancheng City from 2019 to 2023.Methods The reported mumps cases were analyzed using a descriptive epidemiological method,and the protective effect of mumps vaccines was evaluated using a screening method.Results The annual mean reported incidence of mumps was 4.37%/105 in Yangcheng City from 2019 to 2023,and the incidence of mumps peaked during the period between April 26 and December 11.The male to female ratio of reported mumps cases was 1.66∶1,and 89.29%of reported mumps cases was aged under 15 years.The gross protective efficacy of mumps virus-containing vaccines was 80.38%,and the mean duration from vaccination to mumps onset was 5.20 years.Conclusions The reported incidence of mumps was low in Yancheng City from 2019 to 2023.Intensified surveillance and vaccination is recommended in schools and kindergartens to effective control the out-break and persistent transmission of mumps epidemics.
