Tracing investigationof two food poisoning events caused by Salmonella Senftenberg in Donghai County
Objective To perform a tracing investigation of food poisoning events caused by Salmonella Senftenberg within one day in two townships of Donghai County,so as to provide insights into response to and prevention of food poisoning events. Methods A field epidemiological survey was performed among 20 cases during two food poisoning events. The suspected remaining food, anal swab samples and container coating samples were collected. The detected 9 Salmonella isolates were serotyped, and molecular typing was performed using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE).Results The pig ears causing two food poisoning events were produced by the same stall in an agricultural trade market.Serotyping of 9 Salmonella isolates revealed Salmonella Senftenberg in all 9 isolates, and PFGE showed 100%similarity in detected bands. Conclusions These two food poisoning events were both caused by contamination with Salmonella Senftenberg during the food processing and cooking, and tracing investigations identified that these two events belonged to a food poisoning event, which was associated with the contamination of meat products sold by a stall in an agricultural trade market.
