Current status and risk factors of high-risk populations for stroke among elderly patients with hypertension in Fuyang District,Hangzhou City
Objective To investigatethe current status of high-risk populations for stroke and exposure to associated risk factors among elderly patients with hypertension. Methods A total of 14 171 patients with hypertension at ages of 60 years and older were sampled using a systematic sampling method from Fuyang District,Hangzhou City from May to September,2020.Populations at a high risk for stroke were screened through questionnaire surveys, collection of medical history and physical examinations. Results The detection of high-risk stroke was 47.27%among elderly patients with hypertension at ages of 60 years and older, and the detection was higher among men than among women(51.69%vs.43.59%;x2=92.49,P<0.01),and higher in urban areas than in rural areas(49.26%vs.46.20;x2=12.09,P<0.01).The five most frequently exposed risk factors of stroke included sport exercises(52.05%),dyslipidemia(39.81%),remarkable overweight(35.99%),diabetes(35.27%)and smoking(26.24%)among elderly patients with hypertension.Smoking was the most frequently exposed risk factor among men(50.69%),and lack of exercises was the most frequently exposed risk factor among women(55.30%).In addition to hypertension, there were 33.71%of high-risk populations for stroke with 4 and more risk factors, and the highest detection was seen for co-existence of hypertension, lack of exercises and remarkable overweight among high-risk populations for stroke(5.75%).Conclusions The detection of high-risk populations for strokeis high among elderly patient with hypertension, and the detection of abnormal carotid artery is high among high-risk populations for stroke. The presence of two and more risk factors is high, and complex in co-existence.Targeted comprehensive interventions are required as soon as possible to prevent the development of stroke.
