Risk factors of gastric cancer among residents at ages of 40 to 69 years in Jiangsu Province
Objective To investigate the risk factors of gastric cancer in Jiangsu Province,so as to provide insights into gastric cancer prevention and control. Methods A total of 19 491 residents at ages of 40 to 69 years included in the Early Diagnosis and Early Treatment Projects for Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer in Jiangsu Province from 2017 to 2022 were recruited, and the case and con-trol groups were matched at a ratio of 1∶4 using propensity score matching.Univariate analysis was performed following matching, and the risk factors of gastric cancer were identified using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results A total of 1 295 subjects were included in the study, including 259 subjects in the case group and 1 036 subjects in the control group.Univariate analysis showed sig-nificant differences between the case and control groups in terms of age, body mass index, history of hypertension, history of alcohol con-sumption and history of gastroenteritis(all P values<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified advanced age[odds ratio(OR)=2.22,95%CI:(1.66,2.97)],overweight[OR=1.75,95%CI:(1.02,2.97)],history of hypertension[OR=1.60,95%CI:(1.19,2.15)],history of alcohol consumption[OR=1.50,95%CI:(1.07,2.08)]and history of gastroenteritis[OR=1.56,95%CI:(1.03,2.36)]as risk factors of gastric cancer. Conclusions Advanced age, overweight, history of hypertension, history of alcohol consumption and history of gastroenteritis are risk factors of gastric cancer.Effective control measures tailored to risk factors are required to reduce the risk of gastric cancer.
