Study on Whitening Effects of Mulberry Bark Extracts on Pigmentation Model of Guinea Pig Skins
Objective:To study the whitening effects of water extracts of mulberry bark. Methods:The pigmentation model of guinea pig skins induced by UVB irradiation was established, and the corresponding drugs were applied to guinea pig skins. The morphological and histological changes of the skins were ob-served,and the contents of catalase(CAT),superoxide dismutase(SOD),total glutathione peroxidase(GPX)and lipid peroxidation product MDA were determined. Results:Compared with the model group, water ex-tracts of mulberry bark can reduce the skin pigmentation and the slight thickening of keratosis layer in-duced by UVB irradiation in guinea pigs, and the activities of CAT,SOD and GSH-Px increased, while the content of MDA decreased, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion:Water ex-tracts of mulberry bark can effectively resist the damage of oxygen free radicals and ultraviolet rays on skin, and play a role in whitening and improving skin melanin synthesis and pigmentation problems.
