Analysis of Factors Influencing Total Ash of Acanthopanacis Cortex
Objective:To analyze the factors influencing the excess of total ash content of Acan-thopanacis Cortex and to explore the rationality of the standard limit. Methods:For 15 lots of Acan-thopanacis Cortex, total ash, acid insoluble ash and contents of calcium, potassium and magnesium in total ash were detected by means of ash determination, microscopic identification(optical microscope and scan-ning electron microscope)and ion chromatography, microscopic characteristics were observed and microscopic element composition were analyzed. Results:The total ash content of the 15 batches of Acanthopanacis Cortex was 10.4%-14.5%,and the acid insoluble ash content was 0.2%-1.7%.The contents of calcium, potassium and magnesium were 30.6%-49.5%,4.9%-10.9%and 1.3%-2.3%,respectively.The calcium oxalate clusters were abundant.Microscopic element analysis by SEM and EDS showed that the main com-ponent of total ash was calcium oxide. Conclusion:A lot of calcium oxalate in Acanthopanacis Cortex as physiological ash leads the total ash test results of Acanthopanacis Cortex often exceeding the limit of the current pharmacopoeia standard. Therefore, further study is suggested to establish a reasonable standard limit of total ash of Acanthopanacis Cortex.
