Objective To detect the Helicobacter pylori(Hp)antigen in gastric juice and feces of the newborns. Methods The Hp antigen in gastric juice of 38 newborns, feces of 44 newborns and gastric juice and feces of 12 newborns were detected by colloidal gold method. After one-year follow-up,the Hp antigen was detected in feces of 5 newborns and their parents. Results The positive rate of Hp antigen in gastric juice of newborns was 60%.There were no significant differences in the positive rate of Hp antigen in gastric juice of the newborns with different delivery modes and genders(P>0.05).The positive rate of Hp antigen in feces of the newborns was 39%,which in 1-30 days old was higher than that in<1 day old(78%vs.12%)(P<0.05).Of 12 newborns collected both gastric juice and feces, the Hp antigen of 2 cases were positive. The follow-up result showed that among 3 newborns with positive Hp antigen in gastric juice,2 case still had positive Hp antigen in feces, and the Hp antigen in feces was negative in 2 cases with negative Hp antigen in gastric juice. Conclusion The Hp antigen can be detected in gastric juice and feces of newborns, which suggests that Hp infection can occur during the neonatal period.
