Objective To investigate the application value of the extended ultrasound trauma-focused assessment technique(eFAST)in the screening of thoracic and abdominal injuries in the patients with multiple trauma. Methods Fifty-eight multiple trauma patients with thoracic and abdominal injuries underwent CT and eFAST examinations,in whom the thoracic and abdominal injuries were confirmed by surgery. The detection rates of thoracic and abdominal injuries reported by CT and eFAST examination were compared. The application value of the eFAST in the screening of thoracic and abdominal injuries in the patients with multiple trauma was analyzed. Results Of 58 cases, spleen contusion was detected in 19 cases, hepatic contusion was detected in 14 cases, rupture of inferior vena cava was detected in 10 cases, rupture of superior mesenteric artery was detected in 9 cases, and rupture of small intestine was detected in 6 cases. The detection rate of CT combined with eFAST examination and eFAST alone examination for thoracic and abdominal injuries was higher than that of CT examination(96.55%and 94.83%vs.86.21%)(P<0.05).The detection rate of eFAST alone examination was similar to that of CT combined with eFAST examination(P>0.05).The time for CT examination was longer than that for eFAST examination[(10.87±3.41)min vs.(3.63±1.27)min](P<0.05).Conclusion In the screening of thoracic and abdominal injuries of multiple trauma patients, the eFAST examination can quickly and accurately evaluate the patients'condition, determine effective treatment measures, and reduce misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.
