Huan Jun is a kind of mycomedicine in traditional Chinese medicine recorded in Materia Medica from Qin and Han Dynasties to Qing Dynasty, but its name and descriptions have not yet been found in the current traditional Chinese medicine books, hospital pharmacy and TCM pharmacy.By searching and reviewing the herbal works of ancient and modern research literatures,we performed a textual analysis of the Chinese medicine Huan Jun in aspects of its distribution, habitat, morphological characteristics and medicinal properties. The results obtained in this study indicated that Hygrophoropsis phragmiticola L.T.ban & Meng Zhou growing on Phragmites,a species of flowering plants existing in the wet land of the Bohai Sea,was the original fungus of the traditional mycomedicine Huan Jun.The paper provides basic information useful for the deep exploration, research and application of this precious and traditional mycomedicine in future.
