Diversity and Fungal Features of Lichen Species in Xinjiang of China
Protection of biodiversity is a hot and urgent issue for today's environmental conservation. It is also a content of great importance for our environmentally sustainable development and global ecological civilization as well.Through conducting the field investigation together with referring to the information obtained from the publicly reported researches, characterization of lichen species in Xinjiang was carried out comprehensively.A total number of 594 lichen species have been reported to distribute in Xinjiang area, which belonged to 18 orders,41 families and 160 genera. There were 15 dominant families containing more than 10 lichen species such as Parmeliaceae,Teloschistaceae and Physciaceae, accounting for 35.02%(208 species)of the total number of species. There existed 30 dominant genera,on the other side, including more than five species such as Cladonia P.Browne,Acarospora A.Massal.,Peltigera Willd.and Aspicilia A.Massal.,accounting for 64.81%(385 species)of the total number of species. There were 13 families with only a single species, accounting for 31.70%of the total number of families. There were 81 genera with only one species, accounting for 50.63%of the total number of genera.Classification of the growth forms demonstrated an existence of 301 macrolichens which belonged to 71 genera and 19 families, accounting for 50.67%of the total number of species. The remaining(293 species)was confirmed as the microlichens which belonged to 89 genera and 32 families, accounting for 49.33%of the total number of species in this area. Results obtained from the classification of photobionts, moreover, indicated the existence of 62 cyanobacterial lichens in Xinjiang which belonged to three orders,8 families and 21 genera, accounting for 19.51%,13.13%and 10.44%of the total number of family, genus and species, respectively. It thus can be concluded that the unique geographical location of Xinjiang should have created a specific and rich diversity in lichens, which has a great value of research, protection and utilization as well.
