试论霍桑的“灰色”人性观

摘要
霍桑自幼生活在一个清教徒家庭并深受清教徒意识的影响,他也浸润于十九世纪美国流行的超验主义思想之中,然而他总是在亲近中保持距离。正是他对清教主义和超验主义人性观批判接受的态度,形成自己独特的＂灰色＂人性观,即从善到恶,人的心灵分为很多层,不存在绝对的善恶极端。他的宗教观,道德观以及人性观统一于诗性言说中。
Abstract
Nathaniel Hawthornewas brought up in a typical Puritan family and was soaked in the Transcendentalism. But he kept a distance from the two ideas. Because of his complicated and contradictory religious views, Hawthorne formed his u- nique gray view of human nature. There were many levels in the human mind from good to evil. There was not absolute extremes of good or evil. His religious , moral philosophy and human nature idea were united in the poetic expression.
