The Biography Writing and Image Construction of Zhong Liangze in the Qing Dynasty Ruijin County Annals
Zhong Liangze,a martyr of the Southern Ming Dynasty,was not recorded in the Ruijin County Annals compiled in the 22nd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign Qing Dynasty.He was included in the Continued Compilation of Ruijin County Annals,compiled in the 48th year of Kangxi's reign,highlighting his loyal deeds extensively within its pages for the first time.However,his biography was drastically reduced in the Ruijin County Annals edited during the Qianlong's reign,making Zhong Liangze's image monotonous.In the later period of the Qianlong's reign,after the national recognition of martyrs of the Southern Ming,the Ruijin County Annals during the Daoguang's reign re-expanded his biography section,bringing a change to the portrayal.Apart from shaping his loyal and valiant image,it also highlighted his filial piety.The depiction and transformation of Zhong Liangze in the Qing's compilation of the Ruijin County Annals fully reflect the timeliness of the county's annals compilation.At the same time,it mirrors the continual strengthening of national control and local identity during the Qing Dynasty.
