Tao Yuanming had real experiences of long journeys,which mostly occurred before his formal retreat from pub-lic life,reflecting his inner journey from officialdom to seclusion.Both before and after his retreat,Tao Yuanming undertook spiritual journeys.Sometimes,his literary works describe short trips but incorporate elements of longer journeys,and at oth-er times,he imagines himself traveling to specific places.After retreating,Yuanming's spiritual journeys transcended the realm of officialdom and the confines of home.Although he returned to his family in Jiangzhou,spiritually,he continued"to search for home",a quest that also signifies a form of return.
