How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia by Pakistani British author Mohsin Hamid,adopts the narrative mode of self-help literature to tell the life story of the self-made"you",from growth and success to disillusionment.Intentionally styled as a wealth guide,the novel critiques and undermines the very notion of success manuals and wealth-gaining experi-ences it presents,using the protagonist's unscrupulous methods to deconstruct the motivational discourse prevalent in self-help literature.Employing postmodern parody as a critical narrative strategy,the author creates a narrative that is simultane-ously affirming and contradicting,prompting readers to reflect on the perils and crises hidden behind the blind pursuit of rapid economic growth.The work critiques economic development models that come at the cost of moral decay and environ-mental destruction.
