The compilation of The Chronicles of Jiujiang Prefecture during the Tongzhi period began in the winter of the 11th year of Tongzhi(1872)and was completed in the spring of the 13th year of Tongzhi(1874).The Chronicles consists of 54 volumes,with an additional preface and postscript.The compilation of this chronicles was a direct result of the effort to compile The Chronicles of Jiangxi during the Guangxu reign,which was initiated by Liu Kunyi.The active participation of numerous local officials and intellectuals ensured the quality of The Chronicles of Jiujiang Prefecture.The Tongzhi version was based on the earlier Jiaqing one,with additional revisions and necessary deletion.It is comprehensive in structure,cov-ering a wide range of categories and retaining valuable records on the social economy,military affairs,and natural disasters.As such,it serves as an important resource for studying the history and culture of the Jiujiang region during the Qing Dynasty.
