The Ideological State Apparatus of Family and Its Disintegration in Thunderstorm
Cao Yu's Thunderstorm portrays the complex conflicts and struggles within the family structure of semi-colonial and semi-feudal China in the 1920s and 1930s through the lens of family tragedy.Using Louis Althusser's theory of the Ide-ological State Apparatus(ISA),this paper examines the disintegration of the familial ideological apparatus dominated by feudal ideology in the play. The resistance practices of individual subjects lead to intense friction and conflict among the va-rious ideologies within the apparatus.Among these, love,as a liberating force, not only propels the collapse of the old family order but also nurtures the emergence of a new family structure through the concrete practices of the subjects.
