The Characteristics,Problems and Countermeasures of Early Language Education in Urban Families
the language environment in China is complex and diverse. In order to promote national communication and harmonious development,China has long focused on the promotion of Mandarin education in children's education. At the same time, the status of English has gradually risen in the education system while China promotes reform and opening-up and accelerates the internationalisation process.More and more Chinese parents are realising the importance of early language education in the home and are planning their children's multilingual development, including Mandarin, foreign languages(usually English)and dialects.Current research suggests that urban parents'investments in language planning and practice vary considerably across the three language categories, with children's Mandarin and English language development being emphasised, but the learning of dialects being limited. This paper calls on Chinese parents to plan an early language education for their children that is appropriate for local development, with Mandarin, dialects and local culture as the roots, and foreign language as the medium,to achieve multilingual development rooted in Chinese culture.
