Ca Isotope Geochemistry and Its Geological Applications
As the main rock-forming element,Ca can show different degrees of fractionation in vari-ous geological processes, making it a potential geochemical index and tracer for studying diverse ge-ological processes. With the development of analytical techniques,Ca isotope can be more precisely determined and has been more and more applied to different fields of geology.During the past dec-ade,lots of research results had been accumulated.Based on the brief introduction of Ca isotope ref-erence materials and analytical methods, this study elaborates the application of Ca isotope in three fields of geology,including:1)the application of Ca isotope in planetary geology, which aims to ex-plore the causes and evolution processes of the meteorites, moon and other celestial bodies,as well as the characteristics of the early Earth.2)the application of Ca isotope in tracing deep geological processes;these processes include mantle metasomatism, continental subduction and deep carbon cycle.3)the application of Ca isotope in low-temperature processes;these include reconstruction of seawater evolution and river, groundwater and cold spring systems.Through reviewing recent ad-vances in the above important geological processes,we tend to deepen the understanding of the Ca i-sotope system. In the end,the emerging application of Mg-K-Ca multi-isotope combined tracing is also prospected.
