Research on the Expansion of Hefei Built-up Area Based on Night-time Lights Remote Sensing
Taking Hefei,an emerging city with rapid economic development in China,as an exam-ple,based on night light data, this paper analyzed the spatio-temporal evolution of Hefei's built-up areas from 2005 to 2020 from three aspects of urbanization level, expansion capacity and spatio-temporal transfer characteristics and discussed the influencing factors. The results showed that the average relative error of Hefei built-up areas extracted from night light data is 2.41%,and the built-up areas showed a circular expansion dominated by south and north directions. The level of urbani-zation development in the built-up areas of Hefei can be effectively represented by the composite light index and the urbanization level increased by more than twice during the study period. The center of gravity of the built-up area showed a transition process as"southwest—southeast—south-west",with an overall shift towards the south. The population compactness presented an"oscilla-tion"process of concentration, diffusion, and concentration with an overall compact development. The spatiotemporal evolution of built-up areas was mainly driven by socio-economic factors,as well as positively driven by transportation and population factors.
