Research on Stress Concentration at the Toe of Butt Welds in Pressure Pipelines
The safety assessment of planar defects in circumferential welds in the standard GB/T 19624-2019 mainly considers the sum of axial membrane stress and bending stress, but does not consider the influence of stress concentration effect on film stress. This paper is based on the struc-tural stress analysis method of ASME VIII weld fatigue. The influence of seam residual height h and seam width b of 14 mm plate thickness on the stress concentration of butt weld was analyzed by ABAQUS.The results show that when the width b is constant, the stress concentration coefficient Km of the weld structure increases with an increase of the residual height h.When the residual height h reaches a certain value, the Km value basically remains constant, and the maximal of the Km value depends on the width b.Consequently, the functional relationship between Km and width b within a specific residual height h and width b is proposed,as Km=0.97+0.021b.The research content has important engineering guiding value for the safety evaluation of pressure pipelines with defects and fatigue analysis of butt weld.
